Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar which is made of apple juice. It is known for its sweet and sour taste that is appealing for other people.
Making apple cider vinegar has the same process as making wine. However, instead of letting it sin in a dark and cool place, it is stored in a room away from direct sunlight with just room temperature.
The following is the step by step process of making an apple cider vinegar. What you will need for this are apples, wine yeast (do not use bread yeast), bottle with cap, and cheesecloth (you will be needing cheesecloth with fine holes).
The first thing that you need to do is to juice the apples. You may use a juicer to make things easier. Do not have a juicer at home? Don’t worry; you may use a blender. Slice the apples into small bits and put it in the blender. Once done blending, put it on cheesecloth and prepare a bowl or jar wherein you can squeeze the crushed apples to get its juice.
Transfer the apple juice to the bottle and put the yeast. Swirl it to mix the yeast with the apple juice. Let the yeast do its work. Adding yeast will make the apple juice turn into alcohol. Leave it for up to six days.
After six days, you will see particles from the apple juice separating from it. Prepare another bottle or a mason jar wherein you can transfer the vinegar. Remove the particles from the vinegar by straining it. Put the cheesecloth on top of the bottle or mason jar before you start transferring the vinegar. Once done transferring, cover it and keep it away from direct sunlight. Store it also in room temperature only.
Your vinegar should be ready within two to three weeks. Once you see it after the said time period, you will see a solid thing on top of the vinegar. That is the “mother” wherein all the nutrients come from. It is fine to remove it and use the next you’ll make an apple cider vinegar.
Within just three weeks time, you already have your homemade apple cider vinegar.
